Kent Monkman Lecture: Decolonizing Art History

  • Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre 189 Yonge Street Toronto, ON Canada (map)

Official description belowwww:

“The Ontario Heritage Trust will host internationally celebrated artist Kent Monkman at the Winter Garden Theatre where he will discuss his Shame and Prejudice exhibition, beginning with a brief background summary of his painting practice and then describing how his curatorial practice decolonizes art history within the museum milieu. His art is changing the way that we view ourselves by re-evaluating the dominant version of history on this continent, as told from the perspective of colonial settlers who projected their values and ideals onto the Indigenous peoples and landscapes of North America. Monkman will challenge attendees to confront the legacy of their story in Canada.

Paul Kennedy, host of CBC Ideas, will emcee the evening’s program.
