DJ Spotlight on Ace Dillinger

DJ Spotlight on Ace Dillinger

Ace Dillinger is so nice, we asked her to create a mix twice! No joke, though: we are big fans of her energetic sets at the realest parties in the city right now. Bare Gyal, Goodies, and selector sets at bars like the Red Light and Apt. 200 – it can be hard to keep track of this firecracker DJ. But pay attention, 'cause she's popping up in all the right places! You can also find her doing B2B sets with her girl Vaughan and, in fact, they’ll be spinning at our very own Inside Out collab party, Local (S)Heroes, on May 31! Get to know Ace a little better with our Q&A below.

How did you get your DJ name?

I was trying to think of a name for a while, but one day while I was watching Public Enemies I started saying, “Dillinger – Dillinger is a cool last name,” and after mumbling it to myself for a little while, Ace Dillinger was born!

Is DJing something you’d dreamed of doing?

I’d wanted to become a DJ for a while, but I used to let my shyness get the best of me. Once I began to connect with passion more and meet DJs from around the city, I became more comfortable playing clubs and parties.

We are already big fans, but why does this city need a DJ like you?

I think it’s important for the city to know of DJs like me, who don’t just play one genre or top 40 music, because there are so many people out there that enjoy so much more than what the radio offers, and DJs like me can provide those sounds and open minds.

Give us three words that describe your musical styling.

Optimistic, visionary sound.

DJ pet peeve?

I really REALLY dislike requests.

DJ fave moment everytime you spin?

I absolutely LOVE when I play an edit of a popular song – like “Pony,” for example – and the bass drops and everyone simultaneously reacts by either screaming or dropping low to the floor, dancing. It’s THE BEST!

What's your secret-weapon song?

Oh, that’s a good question... definitely depends on the mood, but at the moment it’s my edit of “Say My Name.”

Other DJs in the city that you love?

I love SO many DJs in this city, like Nino Brown, Bambii, Karim Olen Ash, Vaughan, Chippy Nonstop, Freeza Chin, Jayemkayem – the list goes on and on.
