Get to know the Crews and Tangos Drag Race 2017 Top 5 Queens

Get to know the Crews and Tangos Drag Race 2017 Top 5 Queens

For the last 14 weeks, some of Toronto's up and coming or experienced queens have been battling for the title of Crews-and-Tangos-Drag-Race-Queen-Champion-Supreme-in-Chief. The winner will be crowned Sunday, September 10 at the epic finale.  We asked each finalist five questions to get to know them a bit better and find out who we'd want to throw a tea party with. Jezebel Bardot... it's, unfortunately, time to give up your crown to the next reigning queen of Crews and Tangos Drag Race Season 7.

Ashleigh Furniture

1. Who is your drag?!
The pullout Queen was manufactured, 72 years ago, by father and son team Ron and Todd Furniture, in Arcadia Wisconsin. She currently resides in a warehouse in Markham Ontario, where she eats a balanced diet of upholstery fabric and cushion stuffing for a natural padded effect. She loves to entertain in malls, parking lots, Craigslist ads and hearts all across North America and Wisconsin.

2. What or who inspired your drag persona?
Three people really influenced my drag, Liberace, Betty White and the woman in the Carmen Miranda costume who use to work by the Buffet at the Rio hotel in 1994.

3. What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the competition so far?
I have learned time management. I have also learned: If you cannot manage yourself, find someone who can.

4. If you could rise from the grave and come back as any dead celebrity, who would your corpse be?
Liberace. I do my best work by candelabra light.

5. Who is your biggest competition?
I know this sounds like a cheesy answer but... myself. If I don't do well it is my fault and no one else. I have been my own competition this entire season of Drag Race and I need a vacation... To Aruba.

Atmos Fierce

atmos-fierce-drag-toronto.jpg

1. Who is your drag?!
Atmos Fierce is big, bold and BLUE! High energy glamour with a hint of humour and stupidity.  Lots of glitter, rhinestones, hairspray, and love make up the one and only blue haired babe.

2. What or who inspired your drag persona?
I take inspiration from so many different places! Campy movies, pop divas, high fashion runway shows, the list goes on.

3. What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the competition so far?
I've learned not to doubt myself. I have succeeded most when I stick to my guns and put something I'm passionate about on stage.

4. If you could rise from the grave and come back as any dead celebrity, who would your corpse be?
Audrey Hepburn for sure.

5. Who is your biggest competition?
It's a competition?

Juice Boxx

1. Who is your drag?!
Juice is a sexy anime explosion, I love to look as beautiful, colourful and sparkly as possible. I strive to be more than just pretty though, I consider myself a funny, personable well-rounded performer. I can go from beautiful burlesque to character illusion, to ugly prosthetic monster.

2. What or who inspired your drag persona?
I was heavily inspired by a lot of the amazing queens in Toronto when I first started my drag, and since I've come into my own, a huge inspiration for me is all the animes from my childhood (Sailor moon, cardcaptors, and Pokemon to name a few).

3. What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the competition so far?
That the most important thing you can do is put your ego to the side and leave your absolute best on the stage. Trust your instinct and don't compare yourself to your competition.

4. If you could rise from the grave and come back as any dead celebrity, who would your corpse be?
Edie Sedgwick or Brittany Murphy. (Rollin' with the homies)

5. Who is your biggest competition?
Atmos Fierce, we've been top two most of the season so I gotta leave it all on the stage and snatch the prize. ;)

Priyanka

1. Who is your drag?!
My drag is pop star drag. I am such a super fan of all things celebrity. I like to give the audience that award show excitement every time I hit that stage. I love making them feel included on the show, heard and loved while I perform. That’s how I feel when I watch my fave pop stars so I want them to feel the same.

2. What or who inspired your drag persona?
My drag persona was inspired by my fellow Toronto Queens Xtacy Love and Ivory Towers. Their poise, style, dancing, and presence are to die for and I just love channeling that into my performances. There is nothing like a queen who can command a stage - it’s so inspiring.

3. What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the competition so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust your gut. Sounds cliche I know, but when you’re in the thick of a competition the judges get to you because they start to clock you on things and you’re surrounded by so much talent so you start to second guess yourself. What makes a true performer is you following your gut and using critiques to make yourself better.

4. If you could rise from the grave and come back as any dead celebrity, who would your corpse be?
Ugh, I love talking about the dead. I would love to come back as….Aaliyah. That woman died way too soon and she was one of my favourite pop stars growing up. Come to think of it I should do some Aaliyah numbers at my next gig.

5. Who is your biggest competition?
My biggest competition is Juiceboxxx and Atmos Fierce. The best part about them being my biggest competition is we don’t do the same kind of drag. Atmos Fierce gives you super out of the box creative drag and Juiceboxxx gives you fem queen realness with a burlesque undertone to it. We’re all each others competition because we’re all so different so that means anyone can take the crown.

Sapphyre Poison

sapphyre-poison-drag-toronto.jpg

1 - Who is your drag?!
Sapphyre Poison is a femme Fatale, burlesque/boudoir inspired, gender bending sex symbol. She is located in Guelph but performs all across southern Ontario. She is known as The Mistress to the travelling drag troupe TroyBoy Entertainment.  Sapphyre delivers sex and body, and a touch of psychotic, while combining elements of drag and classic burlesque in an intoxicating cocktail that will leave wanting more. This Deadly seductress aims to enchant you, thrill you, and lead you to your doom.

2 - What or who inspired your drag persona?
Female villains were the main inspiration for my drag character, Poison Ivy being one of my greatest idols. I've always loved strong female characters and I have a weakness for the dark and morbid side of things.  I've always admired the way that a woman's sex can distract a man and drive him crazy and eventually destroy him. I am also inspired by pop stars and classic Hollywood as well burlesque sensations like Dita Von Teese and Officially Mosh.

3 - What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the competition so far?
Probably to have fun and embrace the many sides of myself. I'm an extreme perfectionist, and obsessed with details. Throughout this competition, I've gotten into my head a lot and my personal demons have been very loud. I look at my drag as an extension of myself and an avenue to express my art. Sometimes this takes the fun out of drag, which is the main goal in the end.

4 - If you could rise from the grave and come back as any dead celebrity, who would your corpse be?
This is way too hard! Maybe Audrey Hepburn or Cleopatra. Cleopatra would be fun. The outfits!

5 - Who is your biggest competition?
They all are but Atmos Fierce and Juice Boxx are literally Slaying everything. And then myself 'cause, duh.
