This February, join Drunk Feminist Films in cheering on the four women of SET IT OFF, who band together to form a besties bankrobbing crew to break out of the corners they're painted into by racist hetero-patriarchal capitalism (otherwise known as “capitalism”, lol). This classic ‘90s action flick boasts a standout soundtrack and stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, Vivica A. Fox, Kimberly Elise, and Queen Latifah in a glorious openly queer role. Bring your pals along to make fun of white saviour cops and respectability politics, while raising your glass to these women who are frankly not having it.
This screening is guest-hosted by Alicia Bunyan-Sampson and Gyalcast co-founder Sajae Elder, who co-host with DFF cast members Kyrell Grant and Bee Quammie. Signature cocktails and mocktails (Pear Underwood, anyone?) as well as red & white wine and Steam Whistle Pilsner will be available for purchase.
ASL interpretation will be provided for the commentary and the film will be subtitled. The entrance to the venue is barrier-free and there are wheelchair accessible seats, but the bathrooms (which are gender neutral) are unfortunately up a flight of stairs. The restaurant B'SAHA across the street (599 College) has an accessible bathroom that our guests can use until they close at 10pm.
Tickets will go on sale the week of January 16 (we'll post the details here soon). They always go fast! Subscribe to our email list to get the ticket sale link in your inbox: http://eepurl.com/b41X6L Ticketholders are asked not to wear scented products, or to make assumptions about the bodies and gender identities of other guests.
