If you've ever watched Pride & Prejudice or any season of Bridgerton and had only one complaint: not gay enough! Then this is the show for you.

Dreamt up while stuck inside his apartment recovering from top surgery, A Suitable Match (a.k.a Gay Bridgerton) is a trans and gay romcom written by filmmaker and comedian A.C. Birch. Here's the premise:

A lovesick transman attempts to arrange a lavender marriage for his closeted best friend, but must confront his own hidden feelings as denial, scandal, and a running throughline of lesbian chaos complicate things in this regency-era tale of matchmaking gone wrong.

What's a staged reading?

As you probably know, movies are expensive and take a very long time to make, so unsurprisingly, this movie doesn't exist yet. But what does exist is an extremely delightful screenplay.

For one night only, a gorgeous cast of some of Toronto's funniest trans queer and trans performers will read through the script in their best approximations of regency-era British accents while a string quartet cover of Britney Spears' Toxic (and other iconic hits) plays in the background. What more good a Jane Austen girlie ask for?

So grab your ticket! Grab some for your friends! Come enjoy a night of silly lighthearted queer romance at The Second City's Theatre '73. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show begins at 8:00pm. Drink and food service will be available throughout the show.
