Life will find its way to persist at all odds. Seeds activate and grow from the char of forest fires, moss spores find their homes in the crevices of rubble, and water lotuses bloom in the muddiest of waters. Being trans can feel like being reborn and incubated from within the detritus of what once was. Reborn from Detritus presents a series of paintings drawing parallels between personal experiences of being trans femme, and the natural world. These paintings display feelings of tenderness, joy and gratitude for the trans community.

Brian (Bree) Jiang (they/she) is a queer trans-multi-disciplinary artist of Chinese descent based in Tkaronto. Her practice comprises of animation, illustration, painting, graphic design and beyond. Brian graduated from OCADU’s illustration program in 2020.
