Shango Fam we are bringing back VITIGRRL!!! She is a proud Chicagoan who believes in the transformative power of music to help us feel at home in our bodies. Viti currently holds residencies at the award-winning queer dance party Slo’ Mo and is the founder of I-94: a mix/event series that champions and uplifts the next generation of DJs and artists from Chicago and Detroit. VITI creates genre-bending soundscapes full of passion and power, blending classic Chicago House, Detroit Techno, UK Garage, Funk, Soul, Disco and R&B. She has played at top venues like Smartbar to Millennium Park Spot Lite in Detroit and Jupiter Disco in Brooklyn. VITIGRRL established The Good Girls, a dynamic DJ collective with Lady D and Lori Branch. They empower women, LGBTQ+, and POC artists. VITIGRRL is a sound artist, podcast producer, and sonic historian whose work is deeply influenced by the malleable power of sound. Sound moves everything around her.
Kilopatrah Jones’ tagline is poignant and perfect for them, “The Dancer’s DJ.” Born and raised in Queens, a city dweller and a club kid, Kilo has an innate and superlative gift for transferring energy from the booth to the dance floor—with exciting house, techno, and jungle, and moments that both harken to Sound Factory–era glory days and bring you to sweaty BPMs of the future. It’s palpably personal: The dance floor has always been a powerful platform for expression for Kilo, once as a freeing and connecting space for a quiet house dancer and now as one for moving others like them . When Kilo gets going, you’ll lose sense of the kick drum versus the beat of your own body against the floor. That’s a gift from them to you, and your percussion is a gift back to them. Are you ready?
